Today – February 27 – the Kursk State Medical University held the event “Your feat is immortal!” It was dedicated to the memory of a participant in the Great Patriotic War, head of the Department of Physics and Higher Mathematics of the Kursk State Medical Institute (in the period 1963 – 1981), Professor Mikhail Pavlovich Popov.
The event was organized by the Department of Physics, Informatics and Mathematics and the Kursk Military History Museum “Young Defenders of the Motherland”. More than 250 first-year students of the Faculty of Medicine took part in the event.
Associate Professor of the Department of Physics, Informatics and Mathematics V. E. Grankin told the students about the facts of the military and labor biography of Mikhail Pavlovich Popov. At the age of 15, in 1943, Mikhail Pavlovich entered the Solovetsky Jung School. After graduation, he fought against the Nazi invaders on warships of the USSR Navy. He was awarded: medals “For Military Merit”, “For the Defense of the Soviet Arctic”, Ushakov. For more than 20 years Professor M.P. Popov headed the Department of Physics and Higher Mathematics of the Kursk State Medical Institute. Actively engaged in the introduction of computer technology in the educational process of the institute.
E. A. Dobroserdova, a researcher at the Kursk Military History Museum “Young Defenders of the Motherland”, presented to the students a report on the activities of the museum, spoke about the Solovetsky Jung School, about the military path of its graduates, about how in 1941-1945 they heroically fought for Motherland young participants of the Great Patriotic War.
At the event, data on the front and labor path of Mikhail Pavlovich, collected by the head of the Department of Physics, Mathematics and Informatics L.V. Snegireva in the open archives of the Ministry of Defense of Russia and in the archives of the Kursk State Medical University, were solemnly transferred to the Kursk Military History Museum “Young Defenders of the Motherland” to replenish the exposition.
The representative of the Kursk Military History Museum “Young Defenders of the Motherland” solemnly handed over a letter of thanks “For a significant contribution to the civil and patriotic education of youth” to the rector, Professor Viktor Anatolyevich Lazarenko. In addition, letters of thanks from the Kursk Military History Museum “Young Defenders of the Motherland” were presented to the head of the Department of Physics, Informatics and Mathematics L.V. Snegireva and Associate Professor of the Department of Physics, Informatics and Mathematics V.E. Grankin.
Mikhail Pavlovich Popov was a great scientist, a talented organizer, a wonderful teacher, a true citizen of his country. When the Motherland called, he boldly stood up for her defense. The feat of the young participants of the Great Patriotic War is immortal, the feat of all those who fought for our Great Motherland in 1941-1945 is immortal!
