A solemn extended meeting of the Academic Council dedicated to the 88th anniversary of the University was conducted in Kursk State Medical University

The event was attended by the Governor of the Kursk Region Roman Vladimirovich Starovoit, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation, Minister-Adviser of the Embassy of Thailand, a delegation from the Educational and Research Institute named after Doctor M.G.R. from Chennai, India, headed by the Founder-Chancellor, Chairman of the Kursk Regional Duma, Head of the city Administration, heads of ministries of the region, rectors of Kursk region universities, heads of the city and region medical institutions, scientific and pedagogical staff and members of KSMU.

The opening ceremony started with the anthem of Russia and the anthem of Kursk State Medical University (performed by the choir of KSMU “Gaudeamus”).

– Before we speak about the results of the past year, I would like to express my gratitude to those generations of rectors, deans, heads of departments, associate professors who worked for many years in Kursk State Medical University and today we are going to speak about their achievements, – rector of KSMU, Professor Viktor Anatolyevich Lazarenko said. – In 2022 we accepted more than 1,500 students for the first course and 530 of them are foreigners. Today students from 44 countries are studying at our university. One of the main values of the university is its staff, members the scientific and pedagogical ones in particular.  They have always been distinguished by their high professionalism and love for their work. The evidence of that is the numerous grants and successes of students in specialized competitions, Olympiads and scientific projects. Over the 88 years of the university’s existence more than 65 thousand specialists have been trained for practical healthcare in our country and more than 5000 for foreign countries thanks to the impeccable teachers’ work.

– When I meet new people and tell them that I’m from Kursk, firstly the Battle of Kursk comes to everyone’s mind. Right after that everyone remembers Kursk State Medical University. This shows your university stays firmly on its feet, – Roman Vladimirovich Starovoit said. – I want to thank the university and Viktor Anatolyevich, not only for the fact that you prepare qualified staff for the healthcare system of the whole world, but also take an active part in the life of our region.

– Many things connect me with Kursk State Medical University: my family members graduated from this university, seven deputies of the Regional Duma are also graduates of KSMU, – the chairman of the Kursk Regional Duma Yuri Mikhailovich Amerev said. – In the year of the 88th anniversary of the university, I would like to thank KSMU for bringing up more than one generation of true professionals and true patriots.

Foreign guests, who have developed a strong friendship Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation Janita Abeyvikrema Liyanage and Minister-Adviser of the Embassy of Thailand Mattani Kaevpania with Kursk State Medical University also warmly congratulated the university. The founder-Chancellor of the Educational and Research Institute named after Doctor M.G.R. Armani Chokkalingam Shanmugam (India) awarded the rector V.A. Lazarenko with the title of “Honorary Professor of the Educational and Research Institute named after Doctor M.G.R.”.

A memorandum of cooperation between KSMU and the Educational and Research Institute named after Doctor M.G.R was signed on the stage.

Janita Abeyvikrema Liyanage also announced that Viktor Anatolyevich Lazarenko will head the Russian-Lankan University Association of Medical and Related Sciences.

The university received congratulations from the Deputy Minister of Health of the Russian Federation Tatyana Vladimirovna Semenova. The university also received congratulations from the Embassies of the Federal Republic of Brazil in the Russian Federation, the Republic of India in the Russian Federation, the Republic of Indonesia in the Russian Federation, the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the Russian Federation; Malaysia in the Russian Federation, also heads of medical institutions of the city and region, educational institutions of the country and abroad, heads of administrations of the Kursk region and graduates of KSMU.

A solemn meeting of the Academic Council also included an assembly speech “Pharmacology in KSMU at the turn of the century: challenges of the time and prospects”, which was read by Galina Sergeevna Mal, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, Head of the Pharmacology Department of KSMU.

The head of the Urology Department, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Oleg Ivanovich Bratchikov was awarded the title of “Honorary Professor of KSMU”, then the university staff received the awards in connection with the 88th anniversary of the Kursk State Medical University.

Olga Tarabarova, the leading soloist of the Kursk State Philharmonic, a member of the Russian Musical Union, Winner of Russian and International competitions, presented a creative gift to the university after the official part.
