On November 22, 2022, the II All-Russian Student Scientific Conference “First Steps in Science” was held at Kursk State Medical University, timed to coincide with the World Day of Science for Peace and Development, within the framework of the Year of Cultural Heritage of the Peoples of Russia, established by the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation.

The opening speech was made by the Vice-Rector for Educational Activity and General Affairs, Head of the Department of Pediatric Surgery and Pediatrics of the Institute of Continuing Education, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor Vasily Petrovich Gavrilyuk. Vasily Petrovich noted that great discoveries were not made immediately, behind them there were years of painstaking science and it is important to discover this potential at the very beginning, during study, so it is important to hold and participate in such conferences, since they give an opportunity to try your skills in scientific activity.

Vladimir Vladimirovich Grebenkin, the first deputy minister of internal and youth policy of the Kursk region, was present at the plenary session of the conference. He noted the importance of the first step in scientific activity, which many people have accomplished by becoming students this academic year. He drew attention to the great role of a teacher in formation of the personality of a student and his/her scientific interests. “It is important to see the potential of each student and support them,” Vladimir Vladimirovich believes, so the importance of such a conference, in which beginners take part in science under the guidance of well-established specialists in their fields is very important.

The conference was attended by students, postgraduates, researchers and teachers of higher educational institutions of the Russian Federation (cities: Moscow, Kursk, Belgorod, Orel, Ryazan, Sterlitamak, Kazan, Yaroslavl, etc.) and countries of the near abroad (Belarusian Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education, Gomel State Medical University).

The conference demonstrated a wide range of scientific interests of young people, the reports themselves provoked a lively discussion among the participants of the plenary session and sections.
