At Kursk State Medical University, under the chairmanship of the rector, Doctor of Medical Sciences Professor Viktor Anatolyevich Lazarenko, the first meeting of the Academic Council in the 2022-2023 academic year was held. The event began with pleasant moments — congratulations to anniversary celebrants. As Viktor Anatolyevich emphasized, these are not only wonderful women, teachers, but also graduates of KSMU: Head of the Department of Pharmacology, highly qualified doctor, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, Excellent Healthcare Worker and secretary of the Dissertation Council of the University Galina Sergeevna Mal and Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, Physician of Superior Merit, Excellent Healthcare Worker, Chairman of the Medical Council of KSMU OksanaYuryevna Ivanova.

They also talked about university-wide achievements: Rector of Kursk State Medical University, Honored Doctor of the Russian Federation, Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, Deputy of the Kursk regional Duma of the VII convocation, Honorary Citizen of Kursk Viktor Anatolyevich Lazarenko was awarded the title of Honorary Professor of Bukhara State Medical Institute named after Abu Ali ibn Sino of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Also, educational programs of KSMU were included in the premier league of the subject national aggregate ranking. Council of Volunteer Center Association expressed gratitude to Rector V.A. Lazarenko, Vice-Rector for Educational Work, Social Development and Public Relations A.A. Kuznetsova, volunteer students of the Smile of Life project for assistance in the organization of the work of the platform #WEARETOGETHER within the framework of the Tavrida Festival. ART

Then the report of the Rector Professor Viktor Anatolyevich Lazarenko about work of the university team in the 2021-2022 academic year and the tasks for 2022-2023 “Orientation to Needs” were heard. At the beginning of the performance, Viktor Anatolyevich thanked heads of all structural units of the university for the work done.

In his report, the Rector outlined four main areas of work of KSMU: science, training, medical and educational activities. As for training, Viktor Anatolyevich noted — for the past academic year, much has been done. First of all, three new educational programs appeared: “Medical Biochemistry”, “Medical Biophysics”, as well as “Nursing Assistant”. Together with the Centre for the Quality of Education and Training of Scientific Personnel, new educational programs have been developed, which KSMU implements together with the universities of Uzbekistan. These are “General Medicine”, “Pediatrics”, “Dentistry”, “Pharmacy”. Currently, KSMU has 230 students from Uzbekistan, and it is planned to increase this number.

Despite the difficult geopolitical situation, the number of students in the International Medical Institute of KSMU is increasing. This year, more than 300 foreign first-year students were enrolled in the university. As for scientific activity of KSMU, the rector noted that the university has done a great job in this direction: over the past academic year, 53 scientific conferences were held at the university premises, 116 candidate and 13 doctoral dissertations are planned. Last year, four doctoral dissertations were defended. It is planned to open immunology, pathophysiology and genetics councils. In KSMU, there are 78 scientific circles. Viktor Anatolyevich also noted that our university edits three scientific journals (Kursk scientific and practical bulletin “Man and His Health” and two electronic scientific journals – “Collection of Humanitarian Studies” and “Innova”) and two newspapers.

As for residency, last academic year, 285 residents of the second year successfully passed the final certification in 30 specialties at KSMU. University got 17 patents for inventions over the past academic year.

In educative activity in the past academic year, much attention was paid to the events aimed at geopolitical education of student youth, prevention of the spread of terrorism and extremism ideology. Meetings of students with the university administration, conferences, round tables, promotions aimed at clarifying realities in a changing world, were organized.

Vice-Rector for Educational Activity and General Affairs Vasily Petrovich Gavrilyuk summed up the results of the admission campaign in KSMU. Vasily Petrovich emphasized, that this year, there are an unprecedentedly large number of state-funded places at all Russian universities, including residency programs. Average enrollment score on the main areas of training at KSMU has traditionally remained high.
