Since ancient times, a traditional folk costume is an embodiment of national identity, original culture and historical traditions.

Within the framework of the Year of Folk Art and Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Peoples of Russia, the library holds a defile-exhibition “Costumes of the Peoples of the World”.

The opening of the exhibition will be held on October 20 at 03.00pm at the address: Kursk State Medical University, ul. Yamskaya, 18, 2nd floor, library.

Costumes of peoples of the world and nationalities of Russia will be presented by means of dolls both traditional hand-made and modern.

Dolls are the oldest unique and mysterious phenomenon of mankind. It is not just a children’s toy, it is an integral attribute of ancient rites and rituals. Since time immemorial, the masters acquired the art of making dolls, embracing all the cultural traditions, customs and features of folk costume, attracting with a special mystery.

A designer collection of folk costumes will also be shown at the exhibition, folk songs of our Nightingale Land – Black Earth region will be played.

The organizers are convinced that acquaintance with the original collections of dolls in traditional national clothes will allow to touch the gracious source of folk culture, plunge into the original world of a multifaceted phenomenon called “our heritage”.
