On October 27, 2022, the staff members of the Department of Pediatric Surgery and Pediatrics of ICE KSMU at RBHI Regional Children’s Clinical Hospital performed a minimally invasive surgery on a 4-year-old boy with bilateral inguinal-scrotal hernia and umbilical hernia using modern video-laparoscopic equipment according to the PIRS method for the first time in Kursk region.

The method of surgical treatment of inguinal hernias in children according to the technique of skin suturing of the internal inguinal ring (Percutaneous Internal Ring Suturing – PIRS) with Tuohi needle is currently the “gold standard”. This technique is actively implemented in practice of pediatric surgeons in Moscow and St. Petersburg and is now available to every child in our region.
