Nowadays due to the current epidemiological situation, scientists from all over the world develop COVID-19 vaccine.
Russia is the first state in the world, which registered COVID-19 vaccine, developed at the Gamaleya Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology together with the Russian Private Investment Fund.
The Russian vaccine, named Gam-COVID-Vak and later renamed into “Sputnik V”, was developed under the guidance of the graduate of Kursk state medical university, Biotech faculty, microbiologist doctor of biological sciences Denis Yuryevich Logunov.
When creating the vaccine, the scientists used the achievements of molecular biology and genetic engineering. The method is based on the development of Ebola virus and Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) vaccines.
