Mohammad Iqbal, a 4th year student of IMI, took part and won 3rd place in the IV International Online Olympiad in Russian as a Foreign Language organized by St. Petersburg State University. The Olympiads held over the past five years have brought together 27,000 Russian language enthusiasts from 151 countries.

The Olympiad was held in a distance format. The participants’ age ranged from 12 years old to 35 years old, and their citizenship did not have to be Russian.

Depending on their age, participants were offered to perform different tasks. Winners and prize-winners were determined separately for the first age category (12-17 years old) and the second age category (18-35 years old).

The Olympiad was held in two stages. At the first stage of the competition there were two blocks of tasks: questions to the text, as well as tasks on vocabulary and grammar.

The second round of the Olympiad consisted of two parts: the participants had to answer questions that tested their understanding of a popular science article and a sound fiction text.

One of the prizes of the Olympiad is the opportunity to take the state testing in Russian as a foreign language (TRKI) free of charge. The certificate of passing the TRCT is an official document confirming the level of Russian language proficiency, and therefore it is a valuable addition to any portfolio.
