Every year on May 12, the International Day of Nurses is celebrated around the world. The professional holiday of the most numerous categories of health care workers is celebrated on the birthday of the Englishwoman Florence Nightingale, who is considered the founder of the nursing profession. Nightingale during the Crimean War (1853-1856) organized the world’s first service of nurses of mercy.

In Russia, at the origins of this profession, in its modern sense, stands the great physician, surgeon and scientist N.I. Pirogov. It was he who was the first Russian physician to organize and apply women’s care for the wounded in the area of military operations in Russia (also during the Crimean War, in 1854).

On the eve of the International Day of Nurse in the assembly hall of KSMU nursing conference was held.
The conference was opened by the Rector of KSMU Professor V.A.Lazarenko, who, noting the exceptional importance of the nursing profession, informed that this year the first graduation on specialty “nursing” will take place in the IFC KSMU.

– The main in your work is your soul, – Victor Anatolievich emphasized. – “Nurse, sister”, – so says the patient waking up after surgery or being in a serious condition. You are at the forefront: sometimes a nurse can talk to a patient so well that no scalpel or injection can compare … Thank you very much for this!

Further, noting the great contribution of medics to the victory in the Great Patriotic War, as well as the feats of doctors and orderlies during the WWII, V.A.Lazarenko proposed to lay flowers to the monument to the nurse, opened a few years ago on the territory of MFK KSMU.

In the finale of the event there was a touching honoring of the veterans of nursing invited to the conference.

Special, festive flavor of the conference was given by bright performances of soloists and art groups of the Center for Creative Development and Additional Education of KSMU.
