On November 22, 2023, the 2nd International Scientific and Practical Conference “Kidney Diseases in the Light of Urological Innovations” took place at Kursk State Medical University. The conference was attended by urologists, employees of medical universities, research organizations, and centers from the Russian Federation, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. The conference was held in an online format on the urological information portal UroWeb.
The delegates of the conference were greeted by the rector of KSMU, Professor Victor Anatolievich Lazarenko, Head of the Department of Medical Specialties of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Honored Scientist of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Professor, Academician of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan Bulat Uakhitovich Shalekenov, and chief external urology specialist of Ministry of Health of the Kursk Region, associate professor of the Department of Urology at Kursk State Medical University Sergey Dmitrievich Dolzhenkov.
More than 500 delegates took part in the conference. The first reports were dedicated to general issues, diagnostic methods, and conservative treatment of kidney diseases. The majority of the presentations focused on surgical methods for treating urolithiasis, developmental defects of the kidneys, and renal cell carcinoma. All high-tech methods of surgical interventions were presented in video footage: laser technologies, combined endoscopic operations, laparoscopic and percutaneous surgery for nephrolithiasis, laparoscopic plastic surgery for hydronephrosis and nephrectomy, endovideosurgery of kidney cysts, superselective X-ray endovascular embolization of renal artery branches. Malignant kidney tumors generated the most interest from the authors. Academician Matveev V.B. (Moscow) delivered a fundamental report on modern kidney cancer surgery, including extracorporeal operations for multiple tumor nodules in the kidney. The treatment tactics for cancer of a single kidney, bilateral renal cell carcinoma, and robotic kidney resections under conditions of thermal ischemia were detailed. Professor Medvedev V.L. (Krasnodar) presented an exclusive report – the first in Russia to perform robot-assisted laparoscopic kidney transplantation.
The peculiarity of this conference was that the presentations were given not only by leading urologists, renowned academics, and professors, but also by young scientists, heads of urology departments, and even practicing urologists.
Summing up the scientific and practical conference, the organizers and attendees unanimously expressed their opinion that the presentations were relevant, the results were evidence-based, modern, and promising. The 2nd International Scientific and Practical Conference “Kidney Diseases in the Light of Urological Innovations” held at Kursk State Medical University will undoubtedly contribute to the implementation of the latest scientific developments in the work of medical organizations and practical physicians.
