Another facility appeared at Kursk State Medical University at the address: 7 Perekalskogo Street. Today – on October 17 – “Virtual (Imitation) Clinic” opened there. Such an institution for training of future doctors is only available in Moscow, and now there is also one in Kursk.

Members of the Academic Council of KSMU, academic teaching staff and university employees, as well as invited guests arrived at the opening ceremony.

– The Russian system of medical education has always been famous for the fact that the doctor’s training was conducted at the patient’s bedside. But time never stands still. And simulators appeared, thanks to which one may gain experience in practical medicine, constantly repeating the same action. After all, as it is known, repeat actions make perfection, – the rector of Kursk State Medical University professor Victor Anatolyevich Lazarenko emphasized. – Now the clinic allows to practice the skills of emergency medical care. For example, emergency cardiology, when a virtual patient first enters the intensive care unit, where the necessary examinations are carried out, and then he/she enters the operating room, where he/she may undergo coronary angioplasty, balloon angioplasty and stenting if necessary. In the future, we plan to create a multidisciplinary virtual innovation clinic, where nosologies of both emergency and planned medical care will be presented. Also the center of emergency medical care with imitation of the ambulance car with all modern equipment will be created.

On an area of 1700 square meters there are offices of specialists – therapist, gynecologist, cardiologist, procedure and operating rooms, prenatal ward, delivery room, resuscitation, room with devices imitating ultrasound, wards for inpatients and other premises. As for equipment: electrocardiographs, monitor defibrillators, anesthesia-respiratory devices and others, they are all real. And if there are simulators, they are quite realistic, and only a professional is able to distinguish them.

And the role of patients here is played by both simulators, high-tech robots-simulators, and simulated patients.

– This clinic will allow students, that is, senior students, residents and doctors, improving their qualifications, to rise in the level of training by an entire step, – said the head of the Federal Accreditation Center of KSMU Irina Ivanovna Dolgina. – Here they will be able to practice both individual medical skills, including high-tech, as, for example, coronary angiography, and non-technical skills – the opportunity to work in a team, making the right decisions. We plan to conduct trainings using telecommunication networks. The point is that with the help of robots, we will simulate the situation, and two teams of specialists will create a treatment algorithm for a real patient through telecommunication.

By the way, the fact that the equipment is real is also not accidental. Thanks to the virtual clinic, future doctors will learn how to work with it.

Resident doctor, anesthesiologist-resuscitator Angelina Zubkova professionally provides patency of the airways of a newborn through intubation of the trachea.

– “According to the scenario” the newborn arrived to us from a maternity hall, and is in a condition of clinical death, – Angelina explains. – I conduct cardiopulmonary resuscitation in conditions of an open resuscitation system with the necessary temperature regime, adequate respiratory support and monitoring of vital functions of the body, just like in a real medical institution. Properly performed resuscitation measures bring the newborn back to life and it begins to breathe, its heart beats. It is great that our university has given us such an opportunity – to work out the skills, “get hand in it” so to speak and gain confidence before going out to real patients.
